Thornervell terminology and interface concepts
This page defines the terms and concepts used consistently across the Thornervell service. Understanding these terms will help you navigate the platform documentation and communicate clearly when submitting enquiries. The definitions reflect how the terms are used within the Thornervell environment specifically.
Key terms used in the Thornervell service
Definitions apply to the Thornervell context. Some terms have broader usage outside this service; the definitions here reflect their specific meaning within the platform.
- Classification group
- A named category to which information entries are assigned during the intake and classification stage. Every entry in the Thornervell system belongs to at least one primary classification group. Groups are defined by the service's classification schema rather than by user preference.
- Classification schema
- The set of structural criteria that determine how information entries are assigned to classification groups. The schema defines what attributes are assessed, how entries are compared, and what secondary labels can be applied. It is maintained by Thornervell Systems Ltd and is not visible directly to end users.
- Information entry
- A discrete unit of information within the Thornervell system. Each entry has a primary classification group assignment, one or more secondary labels, and a set of attributes that are presented to users during data review. Entries are not created by users; they are classified upon arrival in the system.
- Secondary label
- An additional label applied to an information entry after its primary classification group has been assigned. Secondary labels capture attributes that are relevant to filtering and comparison within a group. An entry may carry multiple secondary labels without changing its primary group assignment.
- Navigation layer
- The part of the Thornervell interface that exposes the classification structure to users. The navigation layer allows users to move between classification groups and apply secondary label filters without navigating away from the information environment. It is updated automatically when the underlying classification changes.
- AI-assisted arrangement
- The use of AI components to support the ordering and grouping of information entries within classification groups. AI-assisted arrangement reflects structural relationships within the classification schema and is used to surface related entries in a coherent sequence. It does not introduce editorial preference or alter classification assignments.
- Data review
- The function that allows users to examine information entries within their access context. During a review session, users can expand entry details, compare entries side by side, and, where available, export structured observations. Review tools operate on entries already present in the system.
- Access context
- The set of classification groups and information entries that a given user is permitted to review. An access context is established through the enquiry and access arrangement process. Users can only view entries within their access context during a review session.
- Structured observation
- A formatted summary of the attributes and classification details associated with one or more information entries. Structured observations can be exported from the review environment in formats appropriate to the user's context. They reflect information already held in the system and do not contain generated analysis.
- Enquiry channel
- The dedicated route for users to contact the Thornervell support team. The enquiry channel accepts requests for access, questions about the service, classification queries, and general correspondence. It is accessible through the enquiry form at enquire.html or directly by email at [email protected].
- Access arrangement
- The outcome of a successful access request. An access arrangement defines the classification groups available to a user and the conditions under which access is granted. Arrangements are communicated by the support team following review of the access enquiry. They are not automatic and are not transferable.
- Support team
- The Thornervell staff responsible for handling enquiries, reviewing access requests, and providing assistance to users of the service. The support team is reachable by email at [email protected] and by telephone on +44 121 456 7890 during standard United Kingdom business hours.
How the interface presents information
These concepts describe the structural approach the Thornervell interface uses when presenting classified information to users.
Consistent entry format
Every information entry is displayed using the same layout regardless of its classification group. This means users can locate key attributes — label, primary group, secondary labels, and detail — in the same position across all entries, reducing the effort of reading unfamiliar content.
Group-level navigation
The navigation layer organises entries by classification group at the top level. Users select a group to view its entries rather than scrolling through undifferentiated lists. Within a group, secondary label filters can be applied to narrow the set of visible entries without leaving the group view.
Expandable entry detail
Each entry in a review session can be expanded to display its full set of attributes. The expanded view does not navigate away from the current group; the user remains in the same classification view while examining the detail of a single entry.
