The functions Thornervell uses to organise and review information

Thornervell's service rests on a set of distinct functions that work together to keep information classified, accessible, and navigable. This page explains each function clearly, without overstating what it does or implying capabilities beyond those the service provides.

These functions are descriptive of the service as it is designed, not a guarantee of any particular outcome or level of performance.

Core functions

Six functions that define how Thornervell works

Each function operates within a specific part of the information-organisation process, from initial receipt to user-facing review.

  1. Intake and initial classification

When information enters the Thornervell system, it is assessed against the service's classification schema. Entries are assigned to a primary classification group based on structural criteria. This stage ensures that information is never left in an unclassified state before it becomes visible to users.

  2. Secondary labelling and attribute assignment

Once an entry is placed within its primary classification group, secondary labels are applied to capture additional attributes. These labels allow users to filter, compare, and navigate entries within a group without losing the context of the primary classification. Secondary labels do not override the primary group assignment.

  3. AI-assisted arrangement and surface prioritisation

Thornervell incorporates AI-assisted components that assist in arranging entries within each classification group. These components support the identification of related entries and the ordering of content for review. The AI-assisted arrangement reflects structural relationships within the classification schema and does not introduce editorial preference.

  4. Structured navigation layer

The interface exposes information through a navigation layer that is derived directly from the classification structure. Users navigate using group labels, secondary label filters, and direct entry references. The navigation layer is updated whenever the underlying classification changes, so the interface always reflects the current state of the organised information.

  5. Data review and examination tools

Within a classification group, users have access to tools for reviewing and examining the entries available to them. These tools support side-by-side comparison of entries, the expansion of entry details, and the export of structured observations in formats appropriate to the user's context. Review tools operate on information already present in the system and do not alter classification assignments.

  6. Enquiry routing and support handling

Where users require clarification, additional access, or assistance with the service, enquiries are submitted through a dedicated channel. The enquiry routing function ensures that requests reach the appropriate part of the Thornervell support team. Responses are sent to the contact address provided in the enquiry.

Data review: examining what the service holds

The data review function is the part of the service that users interact with most directly. It presents classified entries in a consistent format, allowing users to examine the attributes, labels, and associated detail of each entry without navigating away from the current classification view.

Review sessions are conducted within the user's access context. Information visible during a review session reflects the classification groups to which the user has been granted access. Requesting access to additional groups requires submitting an enquiry.

  • Entries presented in consistent, scannable format
  • Filters applied using secondary labels without leaving the primary group
  • Expandable entry detail for further examination
  • Structured observations available in exportable form
